Well, I ordered the equipment to do the Chimp HDD upgrade. I open my xbox, connect the power splitter and both HDD's. I go to boot my Xbox and the fans start up, but then it beeps and the LED flashes green/red. I unplugged the new HDD and the splitter, but it STILL does the same thing with my regular HDD. Did I fry something?

Merry Christmas!
This appears to be a hardware issue, but I'm not an expert on this sort of thing.

Personally I would:
#1 - Check all the cables and re-seat every connection.
#2 - Turn on the display and see if there is an error code you could use against the list. (I've seen a list of the errors posted in these forums. Just google for the xbox error codes and do a little research if you are getting one.)

As I recall I had to replace and IDE cable to make the error I had go away. Perhaps you damaged a cable like I did?

Your not meant to connect the HDD until just before launching chimp

I know, and after realizing my mistake I put the cables back to normal like I said. But it still refuses to boot.

EDIT: wtf, it boots without a hard drive, but then nothing happens--because there is no hard drive

Check the IDE cables, and ports on the motherboard, you may have bent a pin :?

Also check your clock cap, it could be that's leaked all over the board & it's a coincidence it happened at this time.

Did you change any jumper settings on the drives? By default they should both be set to CS cable select.
