Cool, sounds like you have it sorted. I think the best advice I can give regarding 2TB dual drives is you will always end up with 927GB free on each. Any variation to this means you have cluster fuked.... :lol: :lol: :lol:

Well I'm still having some issues that I'm trying to isolate...

80 WIRE IDE
So I bought a 80 wire ide cable, it was rather short but still managed to connect everything up.
I had a bit of a play around with it and I noticed the cable would work either way.

What length cables are people buying?

REFORMATTING
Now that I've got a new cable I'm gonna want to reformat the HDD and start over with my installation.
Even though I was able to format F&G partitions with XBpartitioner 1.3, I wanted to give Chimp 261812 a try.
I scanned physical IDE devices where its should information on the currently connect devices.
Next I i went to the "Master Drive Options" and selected "Partition Information"...
Unfortunately it was unable to open the device, I'm not sure if I should be concerned.

So if I wanted to reformat F&G partitions with chimp would I select the "F&G Splits Space Evenly" option?
I'm assuming this would split the space to 927Gb per partition, write the table and format at 64kb clusters...

I read this thread "HDD Upgrade - Best Current Software?"

hdb is the slave drive, in your case it's the Thomson drive, that's why you are getting that error.
(Need to check the chimp code now to make sure I set it correctly, you are in the master drive options? There should only be 3 options (unless advanced settings are enabled) partition info and format extended partitions and back)

Yeah bugger, that's my fault, I left it as hdb, should be hda.
It's fixed now, just redownload and replace the initrd.gz file.

Thanks for pointing that out ;)

And F & G split should split the remaining space on the HDD evenly.
(It writes the partition table to the HDD)

you might need to disable apm on that drive

hdat2 can be used to disable apm

I haven't had much luck with this, I'm sure it would only take you a couple of minutes :)

What are partitions F & G's actual available space?
After making some observations I noticed there are some
discrepancy between XBP and other dashboards...
I was already aware of this but I wanted to bring it up again.
My results after formatting F&G with XBP...

XBPartitioner 1.3:
https://i.imgsafe.org/4bc3ea773d.jpg

C = 0.500
XYZ = 3(0.750) = 2.250
E = 4.883
F = 927.780
G = 927.780

Total = 1,863.192 Gb

Note: I'm gonna assume that EvoX & XBMC will have the same
values for C & XYZ partitions.

EvolutionX
https://i.imgsafe.org/4bc3c4d9a4.jpg

C = 0.500
XYZ = 3(0.750) = 2.250
E = 5.118
F = 996.137
G = 996.137

Total = 2,000.142 Gb

I used EvoX to do a cluster test on both partitions. Result was 65.536 bytes
But obviously F & G could not be 996Gb in size as the total exceeds 2Tb,
From what I knew this was normal for EvoX...

XBMC4XBox
https://i.imgsafe.org/4bc3571ccf.jpg

C = 0.500
XYZ = 3(0.750) = 2.250
E = 4.881
F = 949.989
G = 949.989

Total = 1,907.609 Gb

So what are partitions F & G's actual available space??
My concern is could this discrepancy cause data corruption?
(Its about 44.4Gb difference between XBMC and XBP)
I'll check my findings again when I format with Chimp...

FTP Client (FileZilla)

I didn't think of it before but I should have kept note as to the available
space that FileZilla would display on the activity feed...
At the moment I would assume it would display the available space depending
on which dashboard the client is connected to, I'll have to confirm that.

Why habibi signed? That's only required for the font exploit. (NDURE) After NKPatcher loads there is no need for signed xbes anymore.
(Or the modern bios if tsopped or chipped)

I will upload my little batch that you just drag and drop an xbe onto & it signs it for you.
(Backs up the original eg...)

Also side note, dashboards show different sizes, not sure why but XBMC would be the most accurate as it reads the partition table off the HDD.
(idotsfan added it years ago)

UnleashX doesn't like partition under a few hundred MB when using a partition table.
(I though it was my version of chimp, but turned out 1GB and over works fine :?)

May look into making an xbe that writes files to the a specific partition to fill it up & that way you can check the last file written to see if it's corrupt or readable.

Yea, I need it for my TSOP Flasher...
Rocky5 wrote:I will upload my little batch that you just drag and drop an xbe onto & it signs it for you.
Sweet, where can I find it?

NEXT ATTEMPT:

Alrighty, I've made some changes from last time:
1) I'm now using M8 BIOS
2) Upgraded to 80 wire ultra IDE
3) I redownloaded alotta my emulators and roms that I was having problems with
4) Alotta the pins on the SATA adaptor where very dry so I went over all the ones i could.
5) I also replaced the capacitors on the adaptor with something a little better
6) Formatted F&G partitions using CHIMP

OBSERVATIONS:

I began by installing a lump of data to F partition,
Below you will see the properties of this data...

Image

I dont understand is why is there more Bytes than Gigabytes?
Either way the data totals to 135.6Gb or 145,634,680,832 bytes...

62,092 Files x 64kb Clusters = Max. loss of 3.973Gb due to cluster size.
So installed size should be somewhere between 135.6 and 139.5Gb
Or somewhere between 145,634,680,832 and 149,607,xxx,xxx bytes

FileZilla shows 927.72Gb free space before installation and 789.83 after,
which is about 137.89Gb difference or 14.863% free space has been used.

Evox shows 996,136,xxx,xxx bytes before and 848,078,xxx,xxx bytes after
about 148,058,xxx,xxx bytes difference or 14.863%

FileZilla and EvoX seem to coincide with my expectations...

XBMC seems a bit odd to me, if I go to the file manager it will show that
F&G partitions have 927.7Gb free space but when I go to system info
I have 949,989Mb of free space before and 848078Mb after installation
Giving me a difference of 141,199Mb or 14.863% again...

Even though we still maintained the percentage the 141,199Mb
doesn't coincide with either of my expectations...

I see the pattern but not sure what to make of it...

What length 80 core ultra ide cables are people using?
Biggest small one i could find is bout 45cm
Smallest large cable is bout 77cm
And not much in between...
Does the length make any difference to performance?

also doesn't matter the size of the IDE cable, longer just makes it easier to fit in the Xbox.

APM = Advanced Power Management

It can be problematic on those Seagate drives, especially ones pulled from external enclosures

Usually you would notice tiny clicking, chirping, head parking sounds if it's affected

I'm not sure of any way other than connecting to PC and checking with software. I used CrystalDiskInfo for Windows.

Later I used HDAT2 boot stick to disable. Hopefully you don't have to mess with it, but here's the guide I followed just in case you do.

Check my post towards the end of that page about getting the correct files to save some time.

Thanks SimBin,
Everything things seems to be working as it should for the moment
But if i have any problems in the future I will definitely be checking this.

CHIMP:

@Rocky
I quite like CHIMP now that I'm using it, extremely useful!
I find it a lot more user friendly than XBPartitioner...
With CHIMP you can't go wrong when formatting large drives.

Can CHIMP be booted from a DVD?
It would be sweet if it could format all partitions...

Oh and thoughts on cloning large 2Tb drives?
I'm thinking it would probably be quicker than FTP
My concerns would be the drives running non-stop
At least with FTP I can pause the process every now
and again to give them a bit of a break...

NKPatcher:

All my emulators consist of 244,638 files @ 893.8Gb
After installing to F partition it totaled @ 904.11Gb
So I lost 10.31Gb due to the 64kb cluster size..

All my xbox games consist of 670,689 files @ 875.1Gb
After installing to G partition it totaled @ 903.09Gb
So I lost 27.99Gb due to 64kb cluster size...

Theres probably not much I can do about my emulators...
Some of the amount of files in a single game can be crazy,
I'm sure I have a couple of games with over 100,000 files.

I've been interested in using nkpatcher to load game iso's
This would dramatically reduce the amount of files and
data lost due to cluster size, this could save me upto 20gb...
Another benefit would be less time in transfering games

I read somewhere a while ago that NKPatcher would work with
iND-5003/4 BIOS but unfortunitly I havnt been able to get this
to work. I'm interested to know if anyone has gotten this to work...

It's a modified version of NKPatcher with the virtual drive system implemented & it doesn't work with ind-bios 5004.

Works with M8+, ind-bios 5003, the last x2 bios before 5035 & x2 5035, maybe a few others all I know is it works with most popular ones.

I will stick it in my google drive & put a link to it, I have it setup so it's pants easy to edit and build.
(Note you need to have your bios point to this xbe file, after it's loaded it boots your specified path)

Also note ind-bios won't auto boot discs when the attach xbe is used. You have to start the game manually.
(The hacked attach xbe just crashes the system & I can't work out why as it should work)
