Taping it off should be as usual but be slow when peeling it off because it turns into a like a thin rubber. Dont know if anyone makes custom jewels anymore but you cant go wrong with clearing out a factory jewel.

I was planning on having an ironman themed Xbox, kinda my thing. How hard do you think it would be to make a jewel that looks like the arc reactor and glows blue?

That may be tough depending the tools you have available. You can always cut a jewel to match the diameter of a factory jewel but you'll need to some way to laser etch or sandblast the design pattern of the arc reactor. A few years ago I had a friend want to do the exact same thing you are and I told him to go to custom car audio place that makes subwoofer boxes and talk to them. I've seen them add glass to they're sub box's and etch in patterns and names. Dont know if he ever did that but that was the best I could recommend then and now, they can atleast point you in the right direction. For the part about it glowing blue.....LED's will work or find an 80mm cathode fan and yank the blue cathode ring from it, it sits under the jewel nicely but it's out of site when looking at the xbox from different angles. Plus you'll get an 80mm fan for your xbox.

In addition to a blue cathode ring, you will want to spray the underside of the jewel with a couple coats of frosted glass finish -- krylon makes some -- to diffuse the light, because a transparent jewel won't glow. For my xbox I polished the area of metal shielding directly below the jewel, too, with sandpaper (from wal-mart) in a progression of grits from 600 to 2000, then lightly rubbed it with mineral oil to prevent rust. WD-40 works, too. That gives the steel a mirror shine in effect increasing the glow by reflecting the light below.

Well I have my console all lit up and it was dull when you plug in a basic controller.
Now my controller Matches! Its not really hard to do if you know basic soldering.
The Wiring is a bit difficult but I had to figure it out myself.
I couldn't find any guides anywhere on how to LED mod an Xbox controller other than Xbox 360.

This stuff right here , http://www.krylon.com/products/fine-sto ... ed-finish/, interesting stuff. After you lay it down it seems alot lighter that the sample on the can but it does darken up after 24hrs or so.

Well I got bored of having basic white LEDs in my crystal Xbox and I happen to have an Xerc 2 XE and a PulseVU 2X Chip I bought from a while ago but Never used them until now. Right now I have Electrical tape holding the LEDs in place in the Xbox where I didnt want to hot glue them in yet... There's about 34 LEDs going around the "X" Trim on the Top shell. I also have the Gem Logo fading with the Xerc when the E/P PCB Fades. This is the first time I've ever installed something like this before So here's a couple pics/video about it. I used Basic Color LEDs for the X Trim but for the controller ports I ordered in Slow & fast RGB Leds that change/blink colors which is perfect for the crystal Console. If you're interested go to http://lighthouseleds.com/ they have all of it. I added more than just 5 LEDs per controller, there's now 12.

Elite_Snafu wrote:Has anyone tried plasti-dip? Thinking of doing some on one of my box's. If so what is the best method of application?
Gave it a shot. I only did a few coats but it turned out good. I did not sand anything down just cleaned the case with soap and water. The Plasti-Dip actually layed down pretty well when the nozzle wasnt messing up and shooting spots of Plasti-dip randomly. Those spots evened out and you can not see them anymore which was nice. All in all it gives the case a deeper and brand new look but makes all the real shiny surfaces flat and dull (in a good way). If you have a case with terrible stains or abrasions that wont come out I recommend doing this, one can was all I needed and I have some left over.

I'm not really a fan of case mods, tacky paint jobs or annoyingly bright leds.
But I really like the new look of Plasti-dip, Did you just the matt-black? No Glossifier?

Oooh, They have Plasti-dip "Smoke" on eBay....
Wonder what it look like using that on a crystal console?
