Update BIOS on modded Xbox

Post by light_in_tunel »

Hi all,

In order to fully enjoy my 500GB HDD without data corruption I was told to format it with 32K clusters (something like that) using XBpartitioner. However, when I run it I get a warning:

"LBA48 info not found! Custom partitions will not work with this Bios! Update your Bios to one which supports at least LBA48 version 2. "

Can someone help me on this task? I'm afraid to fry my adorable box!

I think i have an Aladdin chip - at least it looks like this one: http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewt ... f=13&t=333

I also have an AID disc - if that's useful. I've also got to know about HeXen but the DVD and CD that've burned didn't work out for some unknown reason...

Thanks in advance

Download Gentoox, copy it to E:\Apps
https://www.dropbox.com/s/a606bvk6lv8xv ... v6.03c.zip
Download Evox M8+ or IND-BIOS 5003, copy it to C:\bios
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u6xl9e74pru5sj0/M8plus.bin
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vvg1etcbapybr ... 003.67.bin
Run Gentoox, go to Advanced, Flash Menu, HDD Flash, select new bios, and wait a moment :)

Thank you! Unfortunately, I got a message "Flash Failed" almost immediately. I've tried both files..

Any idea?

Grab a copy of the Slayer's disc form here-
http://www.eurasia.nu/modules.php?name= ... aller_v2.7
Put the disc in and flash using the flashing section with the M8 bios to suit your machine....1.0-1.5 or 1.6, F or F and G drive. Easy and already LBA48 compatible and defiantly blubberless. A very reliable 256k modded bios that will suit your Aladdin very well. ( Your Aladdin will only take 256k bioses). These bioses with that Aladdin chip you have are what I use in 1 and 2TB HDD machines, when they have a DVDrive of coarse. ;)

Yes, that's true.

The thing is that, I dont know why, but i've been unsuccessful in burning new ISO! been trying AID, HeXelm, and Evo and none of the burned DVDs (verbatim) worked! But i've made a copy of a old AID DVD and both of them worked! Will try again.

that is because the flash is write protected i believe it happens on a tsop if the points are not bridged but it could be possible the bios id strings for the flash type is not entered into the config file someone else may know this.
it does not matter you have it sorted now :-)

I've got a modded EvoXdash app here with all the bios id strings for the flash types of all the chips and it also has my modded bioses including my non DVDrive ones. It is a RAR but for some reason even though it is small, it won't load on the site....GRRRR. I can't P.M. it to you either so you may need to send me your Email so I can send it that way. It certainly wouldn't be the 1st time I've sent it to members. Would be nice to have it on the site so all could use but we work with what we have.

That a very good point MrMajst3r. A member from the old forum had a chip like that. I've never had one but he defiantly did because afterwards, it did flash as it should. Well worth checking 1st.

I'll open my box when I get home to check if there's a switch. because if some soldering is required I'm pretty f***. I've never done anything like it.. Bought the xbox as it is

Will also try EurAsia Pro Generic Flash Disc v1.3 since here http://www.eurasia.nu/modules.php?op=mo ... topic=2816 there's someone who did it even with that error.

Should I give up?

You have standard SST49LF020A flash, so problem isn't here.
I can see that you have 1.0/1.1 Xbox. I suggest to flash TSOP with proper BIOS :)
Anyway, where goes these 2 wires from Lattice?

Well I see the problem straight away. That's an LCD version and needs to be swapped with me for a standard Aladdin XT. :D I'd swap 3 XTs for that chip. Been hunting everywhere for one of those. Not after a clock face are you?.
