Chimp Problem [HELP ME!]

I cant use chimp because my xbox turns off when i disconnect the ide cable from the dvd player.

I had this problem. It helps if you can loosen the cable as much as possible. I'm assuming your xbox is already modded? I loosened the cable a bit, but didn't pull it out until I selected chimp from my menu. Have your new drive ready and sitting on your dvd drive. Select chimp swap the cable as quickly as possible and cross your fingers. Also you should make sure your controllers are original xbox controllers not third party. I did it with third party controllers and It makes it much more difficult. Chimp and Gentoox don't act right with third party controllers, sometimes not at all.
Also if your upgrading to a sata drive, I would wrap electrical tape around the back. I connected my ide cable to a sata adapter and found sometimes when I connected it to the drive the back of the
adapter would touch the metal case of the drive and cause a short which would shut down the xbox.
