xbox ethernet port broken?
When I was a kid we won an Xbox original, it was my first Xbox and had been my only until I decided to get into Xbox original modding I went to ftp and it didn't work because the Ethernet port was broken, how can I fix it or is it even possible?

Re: xbox ethernet port broken?
I had a motherboard that had a bad port on it and I removed it and solder another one from a bad motherboard. It was really not that hard to do. The point is it that it can be replaced with a little effort.

Everything is in place and I cleaned it with alcohol, but the lights don't blink when it's plugged in.

Re: xbox ethernet port broken?
If ethernet port is not broken itself, the problem is in network chip probably.
You have to replace ICS1893AF unit.
Here similar IC (from Xbox360):

I've been asked to fix a box with a problem I've not seen before; the Ethernet port shows constant dim amber LED, doesn't want to pick up an IP address. Anyone want to hazard a diagnosis? Dead network chip...?

As always check voltages involved with a meter before jumping to bigger conclusions. Check the cable you're running as well. Look inside the ethernet port itself for pins touching.

Edit***
Okay, so close inspection of the underside of the board, reveals C8M1 has been cracked off the board. Any idea where I can find the value of that capacitor, or indeed its function? Is it even related to the Ethernet circuit?

Re: xbox ethernet port broken?
Hmmm, some other components missing which look as though they were never fitted, and some which look as though they've been broken off... Can someone with a v1.6 board handy check the underside and tell me whether the following components are present:
R6M6
C5M3
C6N8
in the area between the Ethernet and video connectors.
Even better, can someone point me at a hi res photo of the board?

Re: xbox ethernet port broken?
Scanning results in a blurry mess, presumably because the components lift the board too high off the scanner. After that failure I took some pictures instead, I hope they're a help

I've used URLs as they're too big when embedded, for some reason it doesn't link directly to the image though(except sometimes it does, confusing) so you have to click the magnifying glass to get the full res.
