Softmod or Chip?

Post by janders »

I'm working on upgrading my Xbox's to a larger SATA hard drive.
After searching the net for info, I'll think I have the right hard drive and SATA adapter.

Then to my question: What is the best mod to have to make this work, Soft mod or chip?
(All my boxes are soft modded, but I have mod chips ready)

Personally i would go for a hardmod when using a sata hdd just for the ease of setting up the hdd and not needing to lock it.

If they are already softmodded why not flash the TSOP since you are halfway there ?

Reading up on this TSOP , does this mean you don't need a modchip?
Can you TSOP with a chip also
Ideally for one of my boxes, I would like to use as an arcade machine, I dont want the dvd drive, would like to remove the flubber, and would like to use a 2.5 inch HDD, would this work with TSOP

A TSOP flash gives the same benefits as a chip without requiring any extra hardware, only the V1.6 version cannot be tsop flashed - you either tsop flash or chip, not both.

Thanks thats cleared that up, so if I have a chip already in the one I want to use should that let me boot without a dvd drive etc, if not I will TSOP one of my non chipped machines and use that instead

Chip will work with out a dvd, just make sure you use a bios with no dvd check, but Most will tbf, just unplug and you will see :D

nothing stopping you from doing both, I have Gentoox loader on tsop with Excuter on my modchip in my slim, works perfect.
