It should work with Xbox.
Yes, you can use 5V from hard drive/DVD power cable.

18 usd on eBay, I'm going to buy one and give it a try, I will use a usb charger for now but later power it from the xbox
Re: Wifi bridge adapter for xbox
Oh man, wish I would have seen the post earlier, don't buy it!!! that bridge adapter is crap in so many ways. I used it w/usb to controller port and didn't get anything faster than 3mb/sec.
Buy a Belkin(15 -20$ new on amazon)
flash dd-wrt firmware onto it, works like a charm

I use this router with DD-WRT as a wireless bridge (Rosewill RNX-150RT). Works like a charm.

Re: Wifi bridge adapter for xbox
imo power line adapters are the best. Like these. The Ethernet signal goes through your house wiring instead.

Network wall plugs got hack couple months ago. I'm very glad I have never recommend them.
Unlike Wi-Fi, its not part of an entire certified, standardised protocol.

Re: Wifi bridge adapter for xbox
well that's awkward
I've not got time to watch the video but I'd assume you'd need to be in the same building? I've had problems just using them with an extension lead so I doubt anyone could connect to them from another building?

Re: Wifi bridge adapter for xbox
Aww no worry lol. People are safe.
Thats pretty much the same as I said before with Wi-Fi (here or on the old forum), the area where you live certainly affect the choice you need to make for these things.
The problem kick-in for people living in appartment complex and densely populated city.
Then the problem is not if people can get the signal, but how many can get it.
The only thing that I can think of that would stop the signal is the maximum distance it can travel (if there is one) and the high voltage lines.
I would be sold to these if I could be sure the signal would not cross the electric panel of my apartment. And there is obviously nothing for that in the panel. I don't think its even possible.
Again, I would not be too concerned about that. certainly not a script kiddie attack, it require special hardware. (Which wouldn't be a problem for many of us on the forum including you asbo.)
I would also recommend a DD-WRT CB (Client Bridge) (uhh. DD... OpenWRT is much better, but for the sake of simplicity, go DD)
And for the more adventurous people, and people that love free software's (free, like "free speech").
