softmod cloning help

Post by juniormaxx »

i'm dabbling in modding, i've taken my 1TB HDD from my 1.6 crystal and zero'd the key. The other xbox i'm working on is a black 1.6 that i softmodded with an 8GB HDD and zero'd the key.
i've cloned my HDD with a dock and the new drive works in my crystal xbox but i'm getting errors 13 or 14 when i put it in the black system. what am i doing wrong, can someone help me get the cloned HDD working in the black system.

thanks to everyone out there that works tirelessly on helping everyone.

especially Rocky5.

Have to ask: how was the original 1TB HDD Xbox modded? Softmod or chip? Not sure if this is relevant but if both are softmods were they done with the same softmodding tools?

There is a way around this and that is to use Chimp261812 to clone the softmodded 8GB HDD to the new 1TB HDD in the normal way. Lock it as slave and there is no reason it should not work.

Any content from the original 1TB HDD you wanted could be FTPed directly between the two Xboxes using the UnleashX File Explorer or done via your PC network.

However do remember to format the F and G drives correctly before doing that. This is absolutely vital.

An alternative method, again using Chimp2618, or ConfigMagic would have been to export and lock the new 1TB HDD with with the 8GB Xbox's original eeprom. It might have been a better way of doing what was wanted ie. without the added step of nulling the eeprom which may or may not be the cause of the problem. That could still have been done later.

But why your nulled eeprom technique has created a new 1TB HDD clone compatible with the v1.6 crystal Xbox but not the v1.6 black one I have no idea. So I'd hold off doing anything until someone who knows more about eeprom nulling offers an explanation.

I'll be interested to find out myself.

thanks for looking at my post.

I cloned the 8GB with Chimp but it didn't copy any of the emulators or roms. is that always the case? if so I can go back and start over and ftp everything to the 1 TB HDD.
I was trying to clone to do 2 systems at once.

If the emulators and roms were on the E:\drive they should have been included with everything else on C:\ and E:\. So I can't explain why they did not.

Did you use Chimp261812? That is Rocky5's last Chimp update and should be used in preference to any earlier version if you can find it. With a v1.6 Xbox you HAVE to use Chimp2618 at the very least but that will not format any extended partition larger than 256GB correctly so use of Chimp261812 is pretty much essential for larger HDDs used in any Xbox version.

I've had a thought about why the ITB might not be working in the black Xbox. The ITB drive is SATA so you're using a SATA/IDE adapter and 80 wire IDE cable in the crystal Xbox. But did you think to replace the black Xbox's retail 40 wire IDE cable with an 80 wire one too? Not doing that is known to cause problems with some HDD/SATA adapter combos when used in Xboxes.
