leaking caps - should I be worried?

Post by Tom M. »

A while ago when changing the HDDs I discovered that my green Xbox dated 2003-02-20 had some capacitors covered with nasty liquid. I simply cleaned them with a piece of cloth, nothing else. Xbox works fine. But still should I consider having them replaced by someone who know what and how? Any real danger to my green Xbox equipped with Duox 2? Not sure which version of Xbox it is but there is the Conexant video output chip and it is that green european (anniversary, Halo?) edition. No other Xbox I have has any capacitor leaking (the rest are all 2005 v1.6 units).

I have noticed someone mentioning that 2003 was bad for capacitors - in some motherboard repair Youtube video I think - anyone familiar with this statement?

These capacitors should be replaced.
