My latest ebay score :)

Post by nidge »

Hi, just won four Xboxes on ebay, not all from the same seller, but very good prices ;) The best one is a v1.4, it has an Xecuter 2 modchip, the three front panel switches for bios banks and 120gb IDE hard disk. All working apart from DVD drive, which looks like it could do with a good clean anyway :?

One of the other three work, and is softmodded with a stock hard disk.

The rest really have really been canibilsed for parts! Caps removed, well pulled off! not just the battery ones, hack-sawed DVD drive?, cut off molex plugs, missing heatsinks, fans etc...
Cases are in fairly good condition though :)

I will post some pictures soon :D

Your on a roll :-) my latest was an ebay one that didn't sell and I had messaged the guy about it so he contacted me , said it didn't play retail discs ; I took a punt and said I'd give him £10 for it , picked it up , it had a working HD lead with it but strangely wasn't modded !
First thing I did was open it up , clean the lens , remove the cap , it booted up no problem , straight in to Halo 2 that was left in the DVD drive :-) softmodded, xbmc4xboxed, premium4lite , it's working great. ....
Look forward to the pics of your purchases

So I've taken the Xecuter2 modchip out, but there isn't any writing on it?

Removed caps on two boards today :) The X2 modded and a v1.1 stock. The V1.1 switches on as soon as I plug in the power lead, I was hoping removing the clock cap and cleaning the board would cure this. Sadly not :(
I've tried another power button pcb, same result, next is to try a different PSU. If that doesn't work I will have to get the magnifying glass out and check the mobo for broken traces

Nope, it'll be broken traces - one or more of the four long ones along the under-side front edge of the board. Removing the clock cap won't fix that :-).

I've got an Xbox that does the same , leaking cap was the issue , have put it on the to do list as I have other good boxes to be getting on with at the minute .

That's likely a co-incidence, the clock cap is not in the vicintiy of the switch control circuitry. Whilst it's well worth removing the clock cap owing to its propensity to suffer failure of the dielectric and dump gunge over the PCB, the broken traces will be the cause of the immediate switch-on when mains is applied.
