yes, if you are using xbmc4xbox you can ditch the remote and use the controller. if you need a remote + receiver, i know someone who charge about 10$ without shipping.
These pretzels are making me thirsty!

If you are prepared to pay for shipping I'll send you one from England.

Formats - almost anything you can think of, except VHS and Betamax.
...and, although you didn't ask, forget anything at very high resolution, 1080p/i.

@Darkchao

your post doesn't make clear if you know that: an unmodded xbox with dvd kit can play dvds BUT no other video formats.

If your xbox is modded (-> xbmc4xbox is installed) than you don't need any dvd kit and can play nearly any format up to 480p and some in 720p but not higher.

That means we (people who have installed xbmc4xbox) only use it for remote control xbmc.

DVDX2 is a very old software for xbox which is not needed anymore (If I remember right, it was made to enable watching dvds without remote kit BUT this was many years ago now xbmc4xbox does all). just install xbmc4xbox if you have not already done. You say dvdx2 boots from dvd so your xbox is modded. Only buy this dvd kit if you want to control your xbox via remote. If its okay for your to control your xbox via controler/gamepad you do not need the dvdkit, just xbmc4xbox!

That would be the easiest way. If you have an dashboard like unleashx installed already you could burn xbm4xbox to disc and copy to hdd but thats much harder.
If you want to boot directly into xbmc its needed to have a shortcut to your xbmc folder on hdd. Please take a look at the forum there are already tutorials for this.

Or copy to a 4GB (or less) FAT32 formatted USB stick with a USB-XBOX controller port converter to plug it in.

If you can get just the dvd kit sensor then almost any universal remote will work, my faves are the logitech harmony's and so far used 300,515,525 and 650.
Sent from my android coz apple is for pie.
