What can I do with a locked HDD?

Post by RoyalX »

A while ago I traded a V1.0 mobo and PCU with someone.
All the other stuff I have.
And the other day I was thinking about the stock HDD of it.
That it is still locked!!!
And you need the eeprom (hence the mobo) to unlock it.

So, what can I do with a locked stock 10GB HDD?

Is there a way to unlock it?

Have you tried MHDD? I have had some success using this tool on locked drives with no EEPROM file. It is a PC program btw, hope this is of some help :)

you can try a firmware upgrade on the drive some times it wipes the lock code on flash.

if you are lucky it might have the master hdd lock code set as teamassembly if it may of been unlocked or locked with the usual tools, there is another possible code but i cant remember it.

Others as well as "TEAMASSEMBLY" are "XBOXSCENE" and for Seagate drives "Seagate (followed by 25 spaces!)" Case sensitive.

Muchos Gracias,
I will try it tonight.

But the passwords "TEAMASSEMBLY" and "XBOXSCENE" is only if the HDD has already been modded, right?

Damn...
I cannot do it.

When turning on the PC, it asks right from the start to unlock the HDD.
Before booting to the CD or floppy drive.
I tried all the password. And none of them work.
Neither the Seagate 25 spaces one. Damn.

So I cannot get to the MHDD programm.

Tried the HDD as primary and also as slave.
But it keeps telling me to unlock the HDD before going further on.

Set your PC bios to boot your cd-rom first or, and I'm not sure this will work. Leave the HDD unplugged until the boot cd is running.

I used to do the second one with xbhdm as it didn't check for a HDD until you selected an option that required it.

bress the brake key after it has checked in bios that the hdd's are present then plug it the power to the hdd if you get the precise time then it will hopefully work.

i have to do that on my computer.

Could you tell me that again jonny?

Isn't the power cord dangerous?

I have done hotswap many times, but that only concerned the IDE cable not the power.

And are you saying that the PC will know the HDD is connected in the bios eventhough the power cord is off?

Its 12v DC, not dangerous.
The molex connector is quicker to plug in than the IDE I suppose, but I think I always plugged the IDE with the drive already powered up.

See this for how I do it .http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewt ... t=109#p778

It worked to bypass the PC bios just like professor_jonny said.

But then I am stuck at the password in MHDD and in HDDErase.
Non of the 3 passwords work.

Damn...not even Seagate+25 spaces.

RoyalX, what's the model of your HDD?

If it's ST310014ACE, use this tutorial:

I'm gonna ask the obvious here - do you know if the XBOX the HDD came from was modded (hard/soft) in any way?
I assume you traded the mobo away ?? That means a eeprom reader is out...
I used atapwd - its on my xboxhdm2.2 release - same principles as MHDD - but xboxscene is down at the minute (regular thing now). Its a moot point as it works (in my experience) on master passwords - but it seems to me the HDD was never modded.
ldotsfan & I also supplied hdparm (clever linux tool) that did the same. again I used master passwords.

@MrMajst3r,
thanks for that PDF...but I found it a faff to eventually download. Have you signed up to dropbox?
you could upload there and supply a link - then we have instant access & you can read in Chrome :) yep, I am that lazy!! lol
Have a look at what I mean: https://www.dropbox.com/s/86zld9qk2dhlz ... nglish.pdf

I remember ldotsfan had a link where some guys figured out how to unlock a locked HDD with Victoria HDD. It was on some obscure forum - cant check as xbox scene down!

@cifa
The XBOX wasn't modded in anyway.
Yes I traded the mobo away.

Also tried ATAPWD and again stuck with the password.

The problem now is the password. What is the password?
Doesn't work with the obvious passwords
