The aerogel clock capacitor has started to leak on one of my xboxes. I know a lot of folk simply remove them but I would like to replace it if I can.
I'm not to sure what I can & can't get away with as I know the original capacitor is rated at 1.0F, 2.5V, could I replace it with a capacitor rated at 2.7v like one of these or has it got got to be rated at 2.5v ?

Re: Leaking clock capacitor
People over forums don't recommend replacing this clock-cap. It could leak again soon, and keeps date for a short time. Better (and cheaper) solution is small NiMh 2,4V battery:

Re: Leaking clock capacitor
Modern day good quality double layer electrolitic caps dont suffer the same problems of the previous generation of caps and leakage is almost a thing of the past.
I have a 47 farad cap and it keeps the time for a week or two on my xbox.
they expected the xbox to out last the shelf life of a common cr2025 battery so they installed areogel caps also because of rohs and reach regulation in the uk as ni-cd batterys have harmfull heavy metal cadmium.

No. Stock clock-cap is 1F 2,5V. It's placed in left bottom corner.

I've soldered there a small NiMh battery, as posted before. It works, but I can't say how long it keeps date, because I often use this console.
