This is an xbox and it caught fire during use I believe when playing burnout 2.
it is not something you come across every day so I thought I would post pic's here.

I think the smaller cap in front of the clock cap was the fire starter but there clock cap was the culprit the clock cap possibly ate away on of it leads underneath it and it just got hot during use and eventually shorted the power planes below it.

Fuq yeah!!!!!! It's happened to me once, same spot too PJ. I laughed when it happened and the owner of the xbox was a buddy of mine, he freaked out bad and was mad because I was laughing. 20 minutes later he had a new board and PSU from the bone yard and began to realize why I laughed at the situation. Did you see a big cloud of smoke come out of it?

Re: xbox fire :-(
I'm thinking the PSU has a problem as well. It should have detected the short and shut down way before it had a chance to create burning on the board like that did. It seems quite apparent the power supply didn't detect it had a short.

Re: xbox fire :-(
I actually rang up ms and I expected them to just fob me off but no they took I real serious and wanted to know every little detail he was very apologetic and sounds like they want the console back to inspect as he said to leave it alone and keep it until further notice.
The guy said to me it is well outside of warranty but he will do what he can to get me a new console .
we will see I guess.
i'd love a shiny new console in a box

Re: xbox fire :-(
Seeing as there is no chance it would be a nice shiny Xbox these days, maybe if you don't wait for them to respond, because I'd doubt you will hear from them again, and start badgering them about a replacement you may end up with a nice, shiny Xbox 1 in it's place. In fact I'm positive that would be what would happen.
