Australian accent is a product of early settler's heavy drinking, claims academic
Sound about right xman?
I love how they used a picture of Crocodile Dundee because that's who jumps into our collective British minds when we think about Australia, well and Steve Irwin.

Yeah I did pick up an Aussie 'twang' when I lived there that can sometimes re-appear after a LOT of beer... I put it down to living and working with Aussies but now I guess it could be the fact I invested heavily in Carlton and United Breweries!

Well here in Norfolk we're supposedly all inbred farmers, so IMO the drunk stereotype is better than that
Interestingly anyone attempting a Norfolk accent always ends up sounding like they're from the west country, much to our amusement. We do share a love of and a deep history of cider making with the west country, so perhaps that is linked to our accent in some way.
Of course we genuinely are inbred, mum's traced her family tree and my ancestors on that side of the family all lived in Norwich and did marry a little too close for comfort. We know at least one of them had webbed feet! Thankfully my dads side of the family are Vikings so my genes are fine

A quote from the "academic".......A survey earlier this year revealed it to be the fourth “most attractive” accent, behind British, American and Irish.
British, one of them......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQJrBSXSs6o

Proper naughty
This is something that puzzles me, Americans regularly say a British accent is attractive, but which one? There's four countries in Britain with very different accents and that's before you even get down to the numerous regional ones.

Not this American. None of you can talk like me either, so it's not a worry
