Xbox 360E hard drive / memory stick

Post by hawsey »

The old lady down the street whom has her great grandson living with her enlisted me to fix her greatgrandsons Xbox 360 (again) error 68 , this time I have worked out it is the 250Gb that is faulty as it was making a metallic tinking sound.
So we tried to load a game but got an out of memory message so I fitted a 8gb usb stick and that got him up and running.
My question is do I source a 64gb usb stick for it or would the original type of Hdd be better.
Many thanks.
Asking here because I know that someone will know and googling it is just a minefield.

Are the 360's still limited to an M$ sourced hdd or can you use any hdd now ? Easy fix would be 64gig flash drive but i'd weigh up the costs of each.

If it's JTAG, RJTAG or RGH any hard drive up to 1GB will work.

Oh, I didn't realize that. I meant to say 1TB in my last post but I'll just leave it since I'm wrong anyway.

I only have 500gb in mine

Thanks guys, no it's UN modded, I did some more reading and it seems 16gb usb sticks will work and you can use two or three so that might do the trick, thanks again.
With the RJTAG etc can you load a game that you have bought in to memory and still play on line? It's just ill be getting a 360 old type off my sister for my son at Christmas for minecraft duties .....

3tb drives work also but you have to format it in a mac then pop it on the xbox well at least they did at one stage.

No online for jtag/ RGH unless you have a dual boot.

Thanks, I put a 8gb one in so I might put another 16 gb and that should be ok for a few games for him.
Cheers

I have a couple 8GB for my kids' games, in addition to the original 20GB on a 1st gen PRO. They are all filling fast.
I plan on a couple 32 GB USB drives for each machine. (3 total, but am only worried about 2 of them. My 120 Gig Elite is doing just fine...)

Ah so you can put two 32 Gb usbs in at the same time, I misread the previous post, I thought it was 32 max.
I had a read up about using this method to expand memory on the 360 it seems about the only disadvantage is it won't let you use original Xbox games that would otherwise work with a OEM Hdd.
He hasn't been knocking on the door yet so the 8Gb must be working ok :-)

Yeah, the 360 is only able to format a 32 GB drive. A 64 or higher will still only yield one 32 GB drive.

You can use macdrive (windows users) to format external hdd to HFS+ but this is only really for making the xbox play movies from say a 1tb hdd

Another good bit of knowledge to have, thanks, I put in a 16 Gb and an 8Gb and he seems happy at the moment.
I am getting a 360 for my little boy off my nephew to play minecraft on soon so all this info will come in useful to me then.
Thanks again
