KODI 14- sounds likes an artificial flavor additive. I bet this decision wasn't put to a poll. Sounds like the work of some marketing idiot. Probably the same ones that thought in the 90s it would be a good idea to bring out a new formula for COKE.

I just noticed the post an hour ago and was going to post it over here.

Now obviously, like some of the people commenting on that thread, they started using the software back in the day when it ran on Xbox and they are attached to the name as it makes them remember those good times. But at the same time, there's plenty and a lots more that don't really care for the name XBMC, doesn't mean that much to them, as long as the software gets new features and it runs better on old and new platforms, they can call it Fido or Dino or whatever. True, if don't change it too often, cause that would be confusing and annoying when you're looking for knowledge about it

Question is, what does it mean for us. Do we snap the old XBMC name back? for me it took a while to accept the XBMC4Xbox name (always sounded in my head like "Xbox Media Center for Xbox"... ?!). Do we call it Kodi4Xbox? Or we just keep going with XBMC4Xbox like nothing happened...

Please don't rename this version to KODI4XBOX , as Dan Dar3 mentioned It might be a good opportunity to reclaim the XBMC name.

For us, 'XBMC' does what it says on the tin, 'Kodi' is meaningless.

Interesting... Kodi is the name of my neighbor's dog; either way, that sounds kinda elementary... either way it has no effect on the software itself, so that shouldn't matter; i can easily say that cause i don't use xbmc on pc.

We had a discussion yesterday on TS about that and decided that it would create too much confusion by using "XBMC".
The problem is, people will confuse this site for mainline. Mayhem would ensue, I guarantee it.

Renaming "Kodi4Xbox" or anything using kodi is 100% out of the question, I would rather say HOWLONGDOIGOTTAWAIT4Xbox.
Kodi is an horrible, horrible name IMO. PLEX sound good as a stripper name beside that.
Yesterday reading all the comments posted everywhere got me laughing hard for a little while. Most people don't like the new name.

A couple comments from the XBMC FB page:

I don't mind the name change but I'm not sure about the name itself. You should have polled the community (oh wait... Have you?). Kodi sounds like an eco responsible company that sells baby cribs.

ah too bad we won't get our original name back, would have made a great story, xbox comes back for revenge and takes whats rightfully theirs but yeah there would be a lot of confusion right now. maybe sometime in the future - a guy can always dream

Because it was a media center for the Xbox. It was never envisaged that it be used on a P.C. or it would have been called PCMC which sort of suks aye. Actually it sounds outstanding compared to YOGI 14, ow sorry my bad, Kodi 14.
