[Your Freedom] The Day We Fight Back

Post by Xphazer »

Edward Snowden got nominated 8 (eight) times to the nobel peace prize earlier this week.
Just over a year ago, Aaron Swartz left us. After all those nasty revelations.
After it was show that mass spying is not efficient for preventing terrorism.
After all those Americans authorities double standards.

Want to spy someone? Get a warrant! Simple as that, and its the only way that respect peoples rights.

Xphazer, I cannot support you on this. The Nobel Prize lost its integrity when they gave one to Obama for absolutely no reason. Also, Snowden is a traitor. He deserves execution, not rewarded.

Surely he was more of a traitor when he was working for the agencies, since they were regularly breaking the law?
A state is the sum of its people, when it starts spying on its own populace something has gone seriously wrong. He realised that and thought everyone should know about it, pretty much the opposite to treachery.

No one deserves execution.

You call him a traitor and say he should be sentenced to death, why because he spoke out about illegal spying, tapping and collection of private data which was all done in the name of the war on terror hahahaha dont make me laugh. Does no one else see whats wrong with the so called "war on terror"??? Terror is a feeling, its an emotion how the hell are you going to win a war on an emotion?? When will it end? When everyone in the world no longer feels scared??
Let me guess, your also the type of person that believes what they see in the mainstream news lol
People need to go back and read through the history books again and take note of the ammount of times governments have lied and cheated and murdered their own civilians to help get what they want.

Snowden leaked the truth which we would never know if he did not leak the info. We are so blind to whats really happening behind the scenes and he pretty much gave us a sneak preview, and look how the government responded, they want him gone before he leaks anything else that will incriminate themselves and make us all aware of their real agenda. Very contraversial topic.

Chunk, you couldn't be more wrong. I don't even watch the news, as I don't believe in the mass media's political slantings. What Snowden did was give away information and intelligence that became a security risk. By definition, that is treason. By US law, treason is to be punished by death. I think enough of our laws aren't enforced enough, and it's time to start enforcing them.

I'm following the code of the law, just because you don't like it doesn't mean a damn thing to me. Did the government break laws? Most likely. Was it his place to commit treason then flee like a coward? No. If he felt noble and just, he would've become a martyr. He just wants his publicity. A criminal shouldn't be rewarded.

How about:

* read the link.
* read the 13 principles of freedom and human rights.
* understand the motives of the electronic frontier foundation.
* understand that this site, freedom of publishing, net neutrality depends on this.

or just stick your head in the ground, wait until your only option is to sign up with "fox internet" and pay for every website you visit (which they have decided) in a world where projects like this can no-longer exist.

You guys make it very clear to me that an opinion different of yours should result in ridicule of me. It was apparent earlier on TS when you grouped me with another individual, and labeled us as basically redneck imbiciles due to our not having an opinion that matched yours. Just because I don't work in the IT field doesn't mean that I am not allowed an opinion on something that involves the internet.

On that note, I will take BuZz's direct advice and fuck off.

Jesus boys, settle down. What is it with you guys getting so hot under the collar over issues you have absolutely no way of controlling. I personally agree with Mrmajikbus45 on this issue, the guy should be shot but I'm not going to loose good friends over it. That is my opinion and I have my reasons for this view but it is only my view and I don't expect everyone to see my point of view. This forum and TS are set up to help each other and it does. I for one am very grateful for the help I have received and sure, opinions vary especially on TS but that is as far as it goes. I talked to Xphazer about this exact subject last night on TS and we both voiced our personal opinions which were complete opposites but at the end of the talk, we are still good mates. I excepted his views and he mine. While we may not agree on this subject, most issues we do and to throw away a good friendship over one issue is a bit stupid I believe. No two people agree with each other about everything and that we must all except, it is human nature and what a boring place it would be if we all agreed on everything.

Well I assume I was the other "redneck imbicile" , cool, I'm happy with that title but most of all, so what. Others don't agree with me and I can except that. We are still all friends and that is far more important than not being able to handle criticism on "ONE" subject. One heated discussion is hardly worth throwing away all the good times I have with you guys in our talks on TS not to mention the knowledge we spread. I hope you reconsider your, "On that note, I will take BuZz's direct advice and fuck off." sir because I do enjoy our talks on TS and the help you offer others on the forum and I personally don't believe this issue to be really worth such an action. Anyway, I sit on TS and hope to speak again soon.

I dont agree with spying or policing of the internet in anyway.... But I must admit if I'm with xman and Mrmajikbus45... but I also think opinions are sometimes best keep to yourself and again I'm not going to loose friends over it....

I've always gone by the saying 'Don't sh1t on your own doorstep' which however you look at it Snowden did really do...

Dont get me wrong the internet does need censoring to a DEGREE, I dont want to see child porn or sh1t like that!!! But when google and microsoft and the likes of allow the nsa to bypass their security/encryption this is what I have a problem with, as to me this breaches the data protection act which is a crime. I could argue the point that everyone in government should be tried for treason as what they have done was not in the country's best interest but to line their pockets. They want to see and know everything about everybody yet dont believe in disclosure or a transparent government, to use their own words "if you have nothing to hide, you have no need to worry" (a UK officials statement about the amount of cctv cameras planned to be installed between 2013-2018).

Love a good heated discussion , but agree ,no need to walk away just because our opinions differ on one subject or another .
I have friends stateside whom on a daily basis post on Facebook that one person or another should be executed for their misdemeanors .
I don't believe in the death penalty or executions in any way for any reasons and am likewise against gun ownership ; this puts me totally against my American friends but we are still that , friends .
My personal opinion errs on the side of Snowdon / Asange .
I believe it is high time that "they" know we are now watching them not just the other way around .

the banner was about what we learnt from the leaks, and how we can fight against it, not just "what should happen to Snowden". Everyone is however entitled to their opinion. Banner was only up for one day.

Majikbus: you were up for an argument as soon as I joined TS, with your teamspeak name being "Snowden is a crook" - so don't get all drama queen about it now. So sensitive all of a sudden or just attention seeking ?

Here's an update regarding yesterday

Dont kill the man for treason, put his ass in jail and make him work or something. Hell you know he'll be somebodies girlfriend within minutes of being there. I wonder what punishment would be worse, being killed which is quick and easy or getting your ass slammed every night by a guy named Ruben? Now if anything he's done put's lives in danger (American or other) then maybe re-visit a stiffer penalty but killing him wont really solve anything eh? I'm glad to see a community coming together to fight back on this issue. As for the drama and bickering here.............................

Look good people, I understand this is a sensitive subject which is probably best discussed on proper sites, where it can be turned on all sides and debated properly till eyes and ears bleed.

I don't think mixing things up and doing it here is a good thing though. It's like inviting people to a party and then start a discussion on religion, politics or climate change - it is almost guaranteed it will end up in a shitty night for everyone, with no one changing their minds nor anything else for that matter.

With that being said, I'll leave you to it.

Precisely my thoughts, let's stick to XBOXes, XBMC and non-contentious off topic stuff, like missing driving licences.

I don't believe it is "offtopic" really.

I consider the right to privacy along with net neutrality to be quite closely linked. Without net neutrality projects like this won't exist. Net neutrality is currently under attack.

http://www.savetheinternet.com/net-neutrality
On Jan. 14, 2014, the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., struck down the Federal Communications Commission’s Open Internet Order.

In other words, Net Neutrality is dead (for now).

The open Internet rules, adopted in 2010, were designed to prevent Internet service providers (ISPs) from blocking or slowing users’ connections to online content and apps.

This ruling means that just a few powerful phone and cable companies could control the Internet. Without Net Neutrality, ISPs will be able to devise new schemes to charge users more for access and services, making it harder for us to communicate online — and easier for companies to censor our speech. The Internet could come to resemble cable TV, where gatekeepers exert control over where you go and what you see.

Without Net Neutrality, ISPs like AT&T, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Verizon will be able to block content and speech they don’t like, reject apps that compete with their own offerings, and prioritize Web traffic (reserving the fastest loading speeds for the highest bidders and sticking everyone else with the slowest).

The tools ISPs use to block and control our communications aren’t different from the ones the NSA uses to watch us. Whether it’s a government or a corporation wielding these tools or the two working together, this behavior breaks the Internet as we know it and makes it less open and secure.

We must fight to ensure that the Internet we love won’t simply become a platform for corporate speech or another tool for government spying. We must protect the Internet that lets us connect and create, that rejects censorship and values our right to privacy.

The Internet shouldn’t be a walled garden. It should remain a forum for innovation and free expression. As so many startups and political activists know, open, affordable, fast and universal communications networks are essential to our individual, economic and political futures.
more detailed info: http://www.savetheinternet.com/how-save-internet

http://www.freepress.net/blog/2014/02/1 ... fight-back
The fights to reclaim our privacy and maintain a free and open network are intertwined.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/craig-aar ... 96355.html
We need strong protections and sensible policies to ensure the Internet continues to thrive and prosper. But to make that happen the millions of people who have fought for Net Neutrality -- and the millions more who have rallied against Web-censorship bills like SOPA/PIPA and outrages like the NSA's unchecked spying and surveillance -- rise up like never before.
As the sysadmin and person who runs the site and worries about the future of the internet, if I (and other admins) choose to back a project like https://thedaywefightback.org/ then so be it. I couldn't care less if people have a problem with it. I suggest those that do, do a bit of reading on the subject (such as the links above).
