Re: Unsure if Xbox is mod chipped or not, have orange ring no boot problem after Hexen

Strangely I've just been involved in thread on another forum about this sort of matter and one of the contributors there said it used to be recommended to install a softmod on a chipped machine after setting up the latter. As long as the HDD is locked there is no reason why it would not all work fin...

Re: A little help for better understanding "Chimp 261812"

Hey! Thanks for your reply. Ok, so it would be best to split the two partitions "F+G" into equal sizes. I guess this would mean i have a "games" folder in each partition. In " F:/games/A-T " (...lets say at letter T the partition is full) - the reset i will put into &q...

Re: A little help for better understanding "Chimp 261812"

You can have the F:\drive size at whatever you want. With a 500GB HDD it is entirely up to you whether you split the free space between F:\ and G:\ and how you do that or assign it all to F:\. The important thing is if you are just using F:\ that will mean, with a 500GB HDD, that the size of the F:\...

Re: Avalaunch FTP setup tutorial?

I know this is an old thread but I've had quite a lot of experience FTPing directly between two Xboxes using a cross-over cable and the built in UnleashX FTP client. When it works it is easily the most convenient and a quick way to get stuff from one Xbox to another. However UnleashX has certain unr...

Re: XBOX 2TB SATA Upgrade Tutorial

But did you actually use the Chimp (Master HDD) extended partition options to reformat the F:\ drive to use all the available space? The only other thing I can think of is that the BIOS being used does not have LBA48 support. That would limit the partition sizes to 137GB max (137,000,000,000 Bytes i...

Re: XBOX 2TB SATA Upgrade Tutorial

Are you sure you're deleting G:\(Extended Partition 7) and not trying to delete Partition 2? Partition 2 is your C:\ drive and if that is what you're trying to delete it is probably why it is not allowing you to do that. I'm no expert on using XBPartitioner v1.3 but have you used the Back button to ...

Re: xboxhdm23usb

Presumably that was done accidentally when cloning to another HDD - yes? If so and that other HDD is locked you can use Chimp 261812 again to re-lock the retail HDD but this time attached as Slave. You could also do this if you have another modded Xbox. Just follow Rocky5's guide for using Chimp 261...

Re: Broken hdd

I don't know much about chips but I'd assume that one works like any other. Error 13 or 14 is typical of a dash failing to boot for one reason or another - in this case it is because there isn't one. :) You need to install the new HDD making sure the jumper(s) are set to Master then cold boot an AID...

Re: xbox stops

Yes, possibly an early symptom of the wrong cluster size having been used for an extended partition. Things start to go missing when you hit that partition cluster size storage limit. If it is that or a symptom of HDD/hardware failure whilst the Xbox is working get the stuff on the partition(s) back...

Re: help with fixing and upgrading dead xbox HDD

Never used Slayers and whilst there is no reason it shouldn't still work I'd recommend AID or HeXEn instead. AID I know far better because I've used it many times for both chipped Xbox dash installs and softmods. On a chipped machine it walks you through the initial formatting and then leaves it up ...

Re: help with fixing and upgrading dead xbox HDD

Yes, I've just done a bit of checking and it does seem you can fit a a 3TB HDD even if you're only going to be able to use 2TB of it.

This thread contains some outdated information but much is still relevant, particularly the later posts about SATA adapters and 80 wire IDE cables.

Re: help with fixing and upgrading dead xbox HDD

3TB HDD is a no go AFAIK. Maximum size supported by the Xbox is 2TB. With a chipped machine you can put in any unlocked HDD, format and install a dashboard. There are various ways of doing this but the easiest is to burn either a HeXEn (Heimdal'ls Xbox Engineering) or AID (Auto Installer Deluxe) dis...

Re: "Reboot" Freezes Xbox

As said in my OP both Kernel and BIOS were reported by all dashboards UnleashX, XBMC and EvoX as 4817. Now, using the older SID version re-softmod or a Chimp 261812 cloned HDD from my other v1.1 Xbox, also softmodded with the same older SID, it is now reported as BIOS 4817 with Kernel 5838 and all w...

Re: "Reboot" Freezes Xbox

AFAIK I know it is not a softmod issue per se, it is a combination of softmod, softmod version, kernel and BIOS which produces this niche NTSC only bug. Chipping or TSOPing are indeed likely another solution as the BIOS used would almost certainly not exhibit the same problem. But as I said, I have ...

F:\Games Folder Content Disappeared

I'd not been doing anything, just finished playing a couple of Xbox games installed on the HDD in F:\Games. I backed up the saves for that session as I always do and then decided to transfer the full DLC pack installer into F:\Apps that I'd FTPed to a temporary folder on F:\ earlier in the day. At s...

"Reboot" Freezes Xbox

I've asked about this on other forums and nobody appears to be able to provide an explanation for a rather strange softmod bug I've found when using Softmod Installer Deluxe (SID) v5 series. It is a long story but the bottom line is this: I have v1.1 Xbox which reports both BIOS and Kernel as 4817. ...

Re: Upgrading hard drive

Absolutely. It is more important you keep the original, locked HDD when it is a softmod but I can also think of circumstances where it would help with a TSOP or chipped machine too. If it is still in genuine retail state ie. with the MS dash it is less useful. At the very least I would install softm...

Re: Upgrading hard drive

Are you using DVD-R media for your burned discs? If not and the disc drive works OK with official games then you should try it with ImgBurn. DVD-R is the only universally Xbox disc drive compatible media type. If what you have is a TSOP or chipped machine and you find DVD-R does work then HeXEn or A...

Re: XBMC4GAMERS initial boot lag

I have a soft-modded xbox with a 2TB HDD upgrade. I am running xbmc4gamers (I love it) as the default dashboard with the system booting directly into it. Currently I have roughly 400 xbox games on the G drive and 100 xbox games on the F drive. I will be adding about 300 more to the F drive over the...
