I think it is the TSOP mod rather than a mod chip mainly due to how much I paid for it. There's still about a 10% chance it could be a modchip as people often don't know what they're selling. They are stored in the UDATA and TDATA folders in the E partition, so you can just copy the whole lot across or go digging for the exact game saves you want.

Don't run it off the new HDD, run it off the old one. Flash the TSOP, then install the new HDD. You have three options, run hexen etc off the optical drive(which might not be an option as you said), clone the HDD with chimp, or build the new HDD with XBHDM(you'll need an older PC with IDE ports). I think you can run Hexen off the hard drive but, assuming you don't have a winbond TSOP, you'll probably find it easier to use the evox dash.
