Just use account recovery. Its somewhere in the options for profiles I think, or could be in the options of live.

He will have to know his password that he used in the beginning when he set it up, but other than that it's pretty straight forward

also i looked at the traces, and i loaded 5 volts into the flash rom, but other rthan that, there is no physical damage that would indicate otherwise

did both. I thought that it may have just dropped the bios because of it, but i dont have a programmer to test it
