Re: Removing Disc Drive Tray Face Plate

Thanks, a very good and clear description. I did in fact work out from the first reply how to do it once I'd realised you needed to flip it over so the underneath was facing you. I then noticed there were only two tabs, as opposed to the five tabs on the top side of the plate, and it was fairly obvi...

Re: Removing Disc Drive Tray Face Plate

Sorry but your instructions are a bit unclear without knowing which way/how the tray is positioned to start with. I have the tray plus faceplate detached from the main disc drive and it is lying flat of the table with the disc receiving side upwards and the faceplate towards me so I can see the Xbox...

Removing Disc Drive Tray Face Plate

Does anyone here know the correct way to remove the Xbox disc drive tray drawer face plate? I have a unusuable Samsung disc drive (failing laser) from a Crystal Xbox but the replacement disc drive I have is a standard black Xbox Hitachi drive and I'd like to swap the faceplates. The face plate desig...

Re: SATA Adaptor Compatibility thread

The original Xbox IDE cables have 40 wires the recommendation is to get the 80 wire type. Don't be fooled by the various claims made by some sellers about the ATA standard their 80 wire IDE cable is designed for. If it is 80 wire it is suitable for everything. The extra 40 wires don't carry new info...

Re: SATA Adaptor Compatibility thread

Yes, I certainly wish I'd chosen a longer IDE cable - mine is 18"/46cm and I'd say that you'd be hard pressed to use one shorter than that. With the MB > DD connectors where they are there is a lot of 'wasted' cable length when used for this purpose. But that is true even of the original Xbox IDE ca...

Re: SATA Adaptor Compatibility thread

Pretty sure this is the one I've used a few times.... problem is the picture is usually for illustration purpose only.... I've had them turn up before with different capacitors the surface mount type and they didnt work.... but for £1.50 not worth worrying about ;) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2517477...

Re: SATA Adaptor Compatibility thread

Has anybody here any recommendation/direct experience of a good IDE > SATA HDD adapter bought recently in the UK, and still available of course? I've just got hold of a WD 320 SATA and I was going to use it with my laptop as an external backup. However it is whisper quiet and as the WD 160 IDE HDD I...

Re: How to Use Chimp (Updated)

Really the only reason to use Chimp with a chipped Xbox is if there is stuff on the old HDD you want to copy to the new HDD and you don't have any other method available. Otherwise with a chipped Xbox all you should have to do is put the new HDD drive in the Xbox and cold boot an installer disc like...

Re: How to Use Chimp (Updated)

The first thing I did was praise the guide but I have been helping with questions on a number of other dedicated Xbox forums about the use of Chimp, 2618 in particular, for years. I don't claim to be any sort of expert I'm just a long time Chimp2618 user. From my experience of the real world of novi...

[SOLUTION] How to Add Game Save Icons/Thumbnails?

A bit late but I have finally worked out what the problem was. It was due to me using a old version of XBMC. I do this for a very good reason, I won't bore you with the details but it is connected with the 'improvements' made since to the otherwise excellent File Manager operation. The cause of the ...

Re: Timesplitters 2

Sorry to add this a bit late but the patched XBE that Rocky5 referred to is simply that, a patched default.xbe which in essence converts it to NTSC. That way it will run at 480p on a PAL console region changed to NTSC. Obviously the game has to be installed first (DVD2Xbox) and then the patched 'NTS...

Re: How to Use Chimp (Updated)

I have nothing but praise for the bulk of the Chimp guide here but really what is the point of using a Slayers disc? It just seems to over-complicates things unnecessarily even for chipped machines. It just adds another layer of possible problems. Also the importance of using Chimp2618 rather than a...

Folder Art Ideal JPG Size

I want to add folder art to XBMC4Xbox. Using the UnleashX dash with it running as an app I've simply added a default.tbn to things like apps usually simply renaming a copy of the icon.png/jpg I use for UnleashX. The problem with UnleashX is that there is some sort of unwritten maximum total file siz...

Re: Back-Row Skin

I was actually going through XBMC looking for reference to it yesterday and found where the Debug Log option is and that it is set to off by default.

If I have reason to I'll know how to provide one now so thanks for the information.

Re: Skins SVN Build Help

I'll certainly try it so thanks for that. But I'm suspicious now that there may well be things broken in those particular skins in the repository/original download. I installed XBMC v1.1.0 and v2.01 from 2004 and 2006 respectively. With v2.01 none of those skins worked either when using Checkout and...

Re: Skins SVN Build Help

After reading up more about TortoiseSVN what I did with these skins without the build files is use the Export rather than Checkout option. This strips away the SVN directories so you should get just the working copy of the files. That appeared to go fine but it didn't help get BLUEBlack working. I t...

Re: Back-Row Skin

To be honest I don't know anything about debug logs so if it could be explained how to create one or where to find it if it is created automatically it would be very helpful. Thanks.

Re: Skins SVN Build Help

Thanks for all the info and help particularly the stuff about stopping TortoiseSVN invading the context menu. That was indeed what particularly irked me about it. Yes, the default for Windows is to have certain key files hidden, I've known about that for a long time. Indeed it is probably safer this...
