LAN play was the coolest "new" feature for the Xbox, me and my buddies played a lot of HALO, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and other games with co-op.
Almost forgot Splinter Cell, the third one: Chaos Theory had a great co-op campaign.

Steel Battalion! Bought my first Xbox just for that game. Got the second one as well.
Don't play it very often anymore since it takes up quite a bit of space.

XBMC and most emulators looks stunning in 720p, for Xbox games it depends. Some games look good and others get a lot of motion blur on a LCD TV.
For old games RGB cables and a good old CRT is perfect.
Get both cables and try them out if you have the funds.
