Re: Running Xbox Without DVD Drive

You can strip the drive down to just the bare PCB + eject mechanism as I wrote above. Without a hard mod, that's the best you can do

Re: Launching an ISO from the Hard Drive

I'm going to have to take a break from this for a little bit, school is overwhelming me right now and I definitely need to get a working DVD drive. Hopefully this weekend I can do some more testing and report back. Thanks again Rocky5, I will recommend your dash to everyone from now on :)

Re: Launching an ISO from the Hard Drive

Yeah I have a v1.6 :P so that's probably a big part of the problem. Here's what I'm going to do: I'll copy all of the necessary files (the prep folder, xbmc, the default.cfg) to my xboxhdm flash drive and I will rebuild the drive with those files included so no ftp-ing will be necessary to get the d...

Re: Launching an ISO from the Hard Drive

Sixties Kieth,

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I did actually try the shortcut maker before the other two tries that I listed. I received the same results (black screen, no change in LED color).

Rocky5,

I'll test it out in roughly an hour or so. Thanks!

Re: Launching an ISO from the Hard Drive

Hmm, I've been playing around with it for the past few hours and I can't seem to get XBMC to boot as the dash. Here is what I've tried: * Replacing all of the files in C:\Dashboard with the XBMC 3.5.1 files * Hex editing the default.xbe from the hidden partition to search in E:\XBMC I haven't yet tr...

Re: Launching an ISO from the Hard Drive

That works perfectly! Thank you so much :D Prisoner of Azkaban and all of the other long filename games work with the attach.xbe fix. Now all I need to do is set XBMC as my main dash... I'm going to try to figure it out on my own, but feel free to post a tutorial if I haven't reported back yet lol. ...

Re: Launching an ISO from the Hard Drive

Okay cool, I've taken a look at your softmod installer and it's actually pretty cool! It's nice to see some new development going on. I want to try it, but I need to make sure I have a secure recovery method available because my DVD drive is on its last leg. I will give it a shot in the near future....

Re: Launching an ISO from the Hard Drive

Spongy, As far as I know, there are five games that haven't been patched yet. I will try the iso ripper and see if I have any better results. If that doesn't work, I have a feeling I might need to redo my soft mod using Krayzie's Ndure. Rocky5, Is that thread only dealing with hard mods? I know that...

Re: Launching an ISO from the Hard Drive

I understand the concept of extracting ISOs. I have the vast majority of games stored as folders on my console. The issue is with the filesystem . There is no way to have these games run from their extracted folders, due to the length of the file names, which conflicts with the FATX filesystem that ...

No problem! I've been fighting to get my 2TB drive working so I've worked with these programs more than I ever wanted to lol. Glad you got everything working :)

Re: Space not available

C, E, X, Y, and Z are all system partitions. C is where your original dashboard is stored, E is where your modded dashboard, game saves, and applications are stored. X, Y, and Z are each cache drives that are used by games. Those partitions must stay. You have everything set up properly in XBPartito...

Re: Launching an ISO from the Hard Drive

Did you mean to say qwix? I'm not finding anything about a program named gxis. I have no issue getting the files out of the iso, the problem is that the FATX filesystem only supports 42 characters per file name. The games I've mentioned above have files with names much longer than that, and thus cra...

Launching an ISO from the Hard Drive

I've heard that it is possible to launch ISO files from the hard drive as long as you are running a softmod that includes nkpatcher v8+, though I've never seen it done in practice. 99% of xbox games work flawlessly when run from their directory tree on the hard drive, but select games (Harry Potter:...

Re: 2TB Xbox Woes

As far as I know, the xbox doesn't support 128k clusters. At least that's what I've gathered from reading other forums.

Re: Unable to connect via FTP

I am having this same issue on 3.5.1 :/ I've tried modifying both Filezilla Server.xml and guisettings.xml to no avail. I don't see where "None" is listed in the Filezilla Server file, but I see it in the guisettings. Even when I change it in guisettings and upload it using unleashX it rev...

Re: 2TB Xbox Woes

Hmm, that would make the most sense considering that the same games are having problems even after I reformat. I need to do some more testing, but the theory so far is that the drive is not actually corrupting, but that the games do not handle ftp well. Assuming this is true, this is good news in th...

2TB Xbox Woes

I am experiencing some very strange behavior with my 2TB mod. Here is the setup of my console: Softmod using the Splinter Cell exploit and SID 5 Installed XBMC4XBOX 3.5.1 as the dash HDD initially formatted using Xbox HDM, then F: and G: formatted using XBPartitioner v1.3 to 927GB each with 64k clus...

Re: Running Xbox Without DVD Drive

Alright cool, I decided to try the DVD PCB extraction and it works flawlessly! The drive is a Samsung SDG-605. For anyone who reads this in the future, this is what you must do: 1. Unplug all ribbon cables and wires from the main DVD drive PCB. 2. Remove the board by pushing the release tabs/unscrew...

Running Xbox Without DVD Drive

Hello everyone, This is my first post to the forum, but I have been dabbling with soft-modding and dashboards since ~09. My goal is to create a 2TB slimbox, but I am having some trouble when it comes to the DVD drive. I've been doing my research, and I stumbled upon this thread (Archived Link): http...
