Re: What are some Xbox hidden gems?

Stubbs the Zombie is a very funny game... as is Conker live and reloaded.

Forza Motorsport is brilliant too, though hardly "hidden"!

Re: WTB: X3 wire install adapter

Sorry I wasn't being clear - it's the pin header with wires attached (so you can install the modchip without being fixed to the motherboard).

I guess that's not what this thread was referring to?

Re: WTB: X3 wire install adapter

I have 2 (from my X2.6CE modchips, but I'm 99% sure they're the same).

I'll sell for £6 / $9 / €8 each including postage worldwide if you're still interested?

Re: 24p playback?

I think the answer is no. If your xbox is set to PAL it will be 50hz. NTSC, 480p and 720p will be 60hz. The xbox can play videos with various framerates, but they will be output at 50hz or 60hz. I switched to using a Raspberry Pi for playing videos using openelec. This allows you to set 24hz if your...

Re: Which version of Xbox is most suitable for XBMC

Well I measured it with a power consumption device. I think the results are reliable, the results of testing with my desktop were as I expected from online reviews. Incidentally, my PS2 slim SCPH79000 (relatively new model) uses just 14w under load, half of the first slim model. It makes a big diffe...

Re: Which version of Xbox is most suitable for XBMC

I compared power consumption between my v1.1 and v1.6 recently and found that the v1.1 uses around 60w under load, while the v1.6 uses 50w. The v1.6 should therefore heat up less and require lower fan speeds. Having said that, doing am 80mm quiet fan mod (removing part of the metal shielding) makes ...

Re: hex editing games to force 480p? + widescreen hacks

I'd still love to know how they found these codes to begin with. On the PS2, the basic principle is: 1) run the game in a PS2 emulator 2) use a cheat tool to search for memory locations that could contain the horizontal field of view value (there will be thousands) 3) use the cheat tool to change t...

Apologies for the misunderstanding. I meant I have used the PS2 ones on the PS2 console.
Although (for example) the Auto Modellista hex code change is partly the same.

Re: hex editing games to force 480p? + widescreen hacks

I tried to hex edit Halo with the codes provided, I can't find the hex codes in the default.xbe file, I have the NTSC version :? Have you tried searching for the codes in the whole iso file? Also, just double-check you're searching hex not text values (I use HxD). I haven't done Halo yet, but I hav...

Re: better XBOX Soundtrack support

I wrote a tutorial on xbox soundtracks a while back. I've still got it somewhere so will try to dig it out when I have access to my pc. My approach is: 1) convert tracks to wma on your PC (I used foobar2000 with a wma command line encoder). 2) copy them over to your xbox using Xbox Soundtrack Manage...

Re: Is there a linux distro made for hardcore gaming?

I love Debian too, but its not a good distro at all for a beginner... It's an interesting question: what's the best distro for a beginner. I started with Ubuntu a few years back because it was good for beginners. As a very experienced windows user, it was a pretty frustrating exercise. For many thi...

Re: Video jitter

No problems for me on my old-school TV (480p 4:3 ratio). I can try one of my other HDTV's in 720p or 1080i later. Edit: Sorry, I'm on NTSC - probably not helpful. Not at all, thanks for testing on NTSC. I've since tried this clip on my windows PC and most players show jitter (including VLC and SMpl...

Video jitter

I occasionally notice video jitter when watching DVDs on XBMC4XBOX. Having unsuccessfully searched for test videos, I finally found a clip which shows up video jitter very clearly. It's the scrolling end credits of Band of Brothers. I have uploaded a short clip of this, which was ripped directly fro...

I still play my 3 favourite games:

1) Forza Motorsport
2) Rallisport Challenge 2
3) Richard Burns Rally

Nascar Heat is a another one I play occasionally - it's notable as it was the last Nascar game to feature proper realistic physics.

Re: Is XVID HD worth it?

I tried encoding my Casino Royale blu-ray into 720p xvid for my xbox. It played fine and the quality initially appeared quite good. However, when it hit the intro music scene, the limited bitrate just couldn't cope and it looked awful (far worse than the DVD). It's an impressive technical achievemen...

Interesting question... here are some more factors: v1.0 has two fans (one for the GPU) and is therefore louder V1.0 and v1.1 have 1MB TSOPs, so you can flash a wider range of bioses to them v1.6 has a different video chip and can't do VGA without an external converter v1.6 cannot be TSOP'ed I have ...

Re: Using USB keyboard when on-screen keyboard active

Sorry for the long delay on this.

I was using version 3.3-DEV-r31626 (Dec 7 2012). I rolled back to the stable 3.2 release and the keyboard works fully.

I should have tried this before posting, sorry to have wasted your time.

Using USB keyboard when on-screen keyboard active

I received a novelty rubber USB keyboard for Christmas and immediately thought it would be useful for XBMC (particularly for searching on youtube). Unfortunately, the keyboard works everywhere except when the onscreen keyboard dialogue is shown. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? The youtube4xbo...

Probably a good a time as any to say thanks so much for all the time and effort people have put into XBMC4XBOX. It has delivered many classic Christmas films to my family this year and I really appreciate the work you guys put into this.

Alternatives to Coinops

I'd prefer not to use Coinops for various reasons. Can anyone help with these MAMEoX/Coinops questions: 1) Does Coinops 5 put all its save information in a single folder in tdata/udata? I'm worried that the various cores it integrates will mess with my existing 'standalone' emulators. 2) What is the...
