CoinOps Player 1 start Button will not work

Ok, I have CoinOps GOLD on my xbox I have no idea what version it is. Anyway I just got an x arcade joystick and adapter for the xbox, I go into coinops and go into 1943 for instance and I insert the coin with the back button but when I go to push the player one start button it will not work and it will not start the game. However when I put in another coin and push the player 2 start button the game will start in two player mode. I just want to play one player. Does anyone have a fix for this or any idea why the player one button will not work?

You've got your controller plugged into port 2, plug it into port 1 - the left-most one.

I have them both in the correct ports. I have figured out how to start the game on a regular xbox controller, it starts the game by pressing the left analog stick down. But on the x arcade stick there is no button for pushing the left analog stick??
