Hello:
Recently i upgraded to version 3.5-r32977 of XBMC and I am experiencing a pausing problem on some videos.
The video will start playing and then it will pause (sometimes it will pause at the beginning) . If I press the A button on my controller it will start playing again for a few seconds and then pause again.
Any assistance on resolving this issue will be deeply appreciated.
Video Pausing
Re: Video Pausing
I experienced the same thing. I could be wrong, but it appears to be a simple buffering issue, where video is basically being played faster than it is being downloaded and buffered. When XBMC runs out of video to play because it is playing faster than it downloads and buffers, the video will pause while more video is being downloaded and buffered. This is a much bigger issue on a 64MB RAM XBOX than a 128MB RAM XBOX where less data can be buffered, or the buffer is full, and can occasionally result in freezes. One solution is to use the advancedsettings.xml to buffer a much higher percentage of the video to your hard drive than is possible using the normal RAM cache. Then when the video plays, it will play smoothly and uninterrupted because the high percentage of buffered video on the hard drive will be able to compensate for the slower rate of downloading / buffering (or full buffer) that is normally experienced. I've had no further issues since doing this, but realize that buffering everything to the hard drive brings its own issues eventually, so backup everything on your XBOX you don't want to lose in case of eventual HDD failure.
Another solution is to just download the entire video to the HDD before viewing, and either keep it or delete it after viewing. This will result in no pauses or stuttering of video play. Hope this helps.
I'm no expert on the XBOX itself or XBMC, so any input by those more knowledgeable than myself is appreciated. Just trying to help.

Re: Video Pausing
I have to say i havent come across this issue myself on 3.5 so i really think its down to whatever videos your trying to play (certain plugins have different servers with different nos of users etc)
You could also try the advanced settings file. i know a few people use the cache to hdd option which some report works well. It used the hdd so on slow streams it could be handy, simply play the video pause at the start and go make a cup of coffee or something for 5 minutes. This way it will have cached abit on your hdd and you should be able to play without issues.
3 things to note when using this, firstly its constantly using the hdd so if you have an old or noisy hdd expect to here it 'working. Secondly adding to the first point its quite taxing on the hdd and of course you need enough free space on the hdd for the caching to be done.
what plugins exactly are you having this issue with?

120gb hdd, vinyl magma skin, front lights, side strip lights, clear jewel mod with lights, ir dongle mod, hdd indicator. X3 with LCD many mods inc custom x3 jewel.
Re: Video Pausing
I don't think the video pausing issue is really an issue with the XBMC4XBOX software. It's likely just a buffering issue, which can be caused by only having a very small amount of RAM to be used to buffer the video, as well as a slow download / streaming speed. XBMC can stretch the hardware limitations of the XBOX to the max. But also bear in mind that slow internet connections will result in XBMC playing downloaded video at a rate which can be faster than the video can be downloaded/streamed by a slow internet connection. When that occurs, XBMC will pause the video playback until a sufficient amount of video has been downloaded and buffered so that playback can resume.
The best solution is probably to just take a few minutes to pre-download the video if you're on a slow internet connection and a 64MB XBOX.
