XBMC & 1080p?

Post by Rising_Threat »

Having trouble viewing .MP4 1080p videos using my 3.0.1 STABLE rev of XBMC. Originally through wifi, and now using a hard line, it's just not able to display the video. At least with a hard line I'm able to get audio, but no picture. I tried maxing out the network video cache (I'm streaming) and it had no effect. May have made it worse in fact... Kind of at a loss here. I've got DVDX Region Free player app on here too, and it does marginally better, but still no video.

Is the Xbox tech just not able to handle video of that resolution, or is there something I'm missing? Any help appreciated.

I don't think the Xbox could handle 1080p video very well, if at all. IIRC 720p video had to be encoded properly to play back smoothly.

Xbmc may play 1080i, max; however, it's unlikely because of hardware limitations.

720p can be played, but if the video is encoded with h264 at high bitrate, it won't play well, if at all.

Again, not xbmc specific but rather hardware limitations.

Yep, forget anything higher than 720P and even then it must be encoded correctly.

Xbox sports an Intel PIII @ 733 MHz and 64 MB RAM, so 1080p video playback is a bit too much for it.

This is a guide to convert / downscale it.
