has XBMC4XBOX 31744 broke my xmugen build?

downloaded R31744 & installed everything (thanks buzz - lol) - all seemed sweet & my son loving youtube on it.
Ive been working (slowly) on another xmugen build but I cant get it to boot since I installed R31744 - driving me nuts
I have tried booting from a shortcut or within a file manger. blank screen - nothing - does not engage the 480p mode I assume.
Ive messed around with most things - maybe I am missing something & someone can help me spot it.

XBOX 1.1 - hardchipped (smartXX)
Component connection - XBMC @ 720p
BIOS unchanged: x2 5037.137 - tried others (no effect)
480p & 720p & 1080i enabled in Xdash (tried enabling & disabling1080i - no effect)
tried xmugen in F:\Emulators - no change. It was working in F:\Games\xmugen
Have tried booting via R31744 into R3.2.1 (my earlier working build) & no effect
tried booting it via Unleash via R31744 & no effect
I cleaned X:, Y:, & Z & E;\Cache - no effect
A few commercial games I tested (on the HDD) seem to work fine - all via the games shortcuts.

The only way I can get it to boot is via a a boot disc (frostys rescue disc)

I also tried all this on my sons XBOX (he had a working xmugen on there too) & I redid his XBOX with the new R31744 build. Now has the same xmugen issue as mine. I can get xmugen to boot with Frostys boot disc.
so the game definitely works but it doesn't within xbmc4xbox now - even on my previous builds?
Have I messed up. Is there something I am missing......help is appreciated

long story short, I did more testing & am still convinced R31744 stops my xmugen build from booting.
Eventually I made it back to 3.2.1 - and guess what - it's working but I still can't boot xmugen on R31744 since my success on 3.2.1.
if I cba, I would format the whole E:\ and try again - but I personally can't see me getting that motivated - as this has eaten up too much geek time already
looks like I'll be staying on 3.2.1 for some time to come
