The last Beta ? XBMC4Xbox 3.5 Beta 4 is released

Video playback

Due to some recent changes, and a few more issues reported and fixed, we decided to push out another beta.

XBMC4Xbox Beta 4 is out, which includes the following changes:

  • Fixed string encoding issue on system information screen.
  • Fixed some cases where XBMC addons would fail due to our strict type checking – now automatically convert parameters for listitem’s to the correct type where possible.
  • Additional Python API infolabels / infotags.

Should there be no more major issues, we hope the final release is just around the corner :)

If you enjoy using XBMC4Xbox and want to show your support for the ongoing development please consider making a donation to the project. Please also do join in the discussions over at our Forum.

    Bug report: When adding a movie to the library, movie info is populated, but thumbs and fanart don’t download automatically or if you try manually.

    @PCXP
    use the forum to initially report problems, and if confirmed, it can be added to the bugtracker. Scrapers have been updated since the last beta, however further fixes are still needed.

    Hello Guys & Dolls,

    Does anyone know on wich version of XBMC XBMC4Xbox is build?
    I can’t seem to find any info on this.

    @ the Developers: Awsome work you guys, Keep it up

    RWJ it’s different from the standard XBMC in almost every way.. Don’t try to integrate the 2.. Thanks for the most recent beta..

    @RWJ: It’s a kind of Dharma/Frodo mashup! As Yatti says, it’s best to think of them as two completely different entities – XBMC and XBMC4Xbox are distant relatives. They look similar and they do similar things but at the core of it all they are very different. Great work as always buzz.

    By the way guys please check out http://www.totalxbmc.tv as I’ve set up an xbox addon compatibility section and need testers. Let’s keep this old girl going for a few more years :)

    You know, one day, all forums are going to be cataloged and available on E books.

    Till then, I will wonder why I just don’t make my own molds for my custom x4 pannel I have always wanted.

    Oh yea, I suck at fabrication. But at least my xbox will never stop being the ultimate music and game player. Really, nothing beats it. sad some of the more hard core people just kind of went on to just nothingness. Oh well.

    PCXP :
    Bug report: When adding a movie to the library, movie info is populated, but thumbs and fanart don’t download automatically or if you try manually.

    I can confirm that on 3.5 beta 4 most of the images either do not download when scraped, or are never loaded by the UI. This includes banners, posters, thumbs, etc but Fanart/Backgrounds DO download and get loaded. The media info does load (Plot & Episode info)

    My setup is accessing media over SMB shares on a linux media server, which already has the artwork in the correct places next to the media. I also use XBMC on my laptops to access the same media library through NFS which finds and uses the artwork correctly.

    Second bug:
    Simply changing the location for the weather freezes during accessing the weather service, and also stays frozen if you cancel it. Requires a restart. I have left it overnight about 12 hours in both accessing and cancelling to make sure.

    As a side note, I’m not sure if it is normal but it takes about an hour to scrape the same library on my netbook or laptop from scratch (which includes all of the artwork), but over 10 hours to scrape it on the xbox (and only getting fanart) on the same network.

    @Miigotu
    this is not a good place for bug reports – use the forum first – you will need to supply a debug log.

    Requesting descriptions for the addons because I have no idea what that addon is or what it does or if it is any good. So a rating would be nice too.

    @Simon
    This is not the place for feature requests / help – Try the forum / Bugtracker. Having said that, addon-info is available on the xbmc site, and via context menu from our “addons4xbox installer”

    I descover the reason, if the xbox is set in 720p mode, mp4 videos wont play, if is set in 480 p mode the xbox play the videos. Its a error of the xbmc.

    I’d like to ask BuZz and/or other developers working on this project a question. Since this isn’t a support question or a bug report, and is just a generalized question about the project itself, I hope you won’t mind if I ask it here.

    At this point in time with the project, when you sit down and get to work with the latest version of xbmc4xbox, do you start with a stock Xbox in mind, do you start with an Xbox with upgraded ram in mind, do you try to write xbmc4xbox with both stock and upgraded in mind, or do you not consider memory at all? Also, how do you feel about run-on sentences?

    What got me thinking about this is the Confluence skin. It runs much heavier on all my Xboxes. When I use PMIIIHD skin they all run like champs. Granted, Confluence is a bit more featured and probably needs more resources than a stock Xbox can sufficiently provide. I just learned to live without Confluence, as PMIIIHD meets my needs just fine.

    I use xbmc4xbox, literally daily. I love it. All my Xboxes in my home are all 1.6, which from what I understand can’t have a memory upgrade performed on them. I would really hate this project to go in a direction that would eventually outright exclude the 1.6′s. I have one on each TV in my home.

    Also, my thanks for keeping this alive. I know that, unfortunately, development is slowing down, and I am wrapping my head around the concept that 3.5 might be the final version ever. I was hoping someone somewhere would develop XBMC4xbox360, but I have come to accept that’s not in the cards for whatever reason. I thought it was a natural, but whatever. The development for projects for the 360 didn’t even come close to the greatness that has been achieved with XBMC in my opinion.
